Default Heard static only on playback, then nothing

    This is a new one.
In one edl only, everything was fine but the next time I opened it, I heard only static.
Meters showed signal but there was no "sound".
I tried changing the driver to ASIO but no options appear in audio device setup.
I closed the file, reopened it, and now there's nothing. Automation entries were dragged off and I'm not sure what else to try.
All other projects open and play fine.
Has anyone else experienced this and found a solution?
    Thanks,
    Jon

Do the tracks play in Soundfile view?

try opening undo files for that project back through time till one works.

Also, if you open the failed project can you then open a working project or do you have to restart saw? I have never seen that, but just throwing in the thought as it would relate to the above suggestion.

    Good question!
    I'll verify and post back.

You can also try clicking subsets of the track numbers black and seeing if you get partial playback and if so, zero in on the offensive track.

Interestingly, Soundfile View works fine. And I can see levels in Multitrack View but still no sound and no meter activity in SAW or the interface.
I can open working files without restarting SAW.
There are too many undo files to go back but I'll try that if this happens again.
    No change by selecting tracks.
I'm hoping that the project can be salvaged with Soundfile working.
Sincere thanks to everyone for the helpful ideas!

    Here is a possibility:

I have a bum vst that I have been to lazy to track down. It may have been from an experiment of naming a vst3 to vst upon discovering the plethora of plugins out there (and before I found that 3 was not supported). I've patch it in to sessions a couple of times and crashed it or had a weird message pop up. By the time I realized what has happened, I've forgotten what it's name is.

Also you could rename the session and just delete regions or tracks systematically, maybe starting with just one track, and seeing if playback resumes.

What else? I seem to remember one of the usb audio devices I've used not being able to follow sample rate or bit depth and having to be matched manually - could one of those settings have been altered? Although if you can play soundfile view from within that session, I suppose that is unlikely to be the case.

It sounds like a corrupted plugin or corrupted plugin settings to me, if other EDLs are playing correctly. The description reminds me of having a digital delay that has too much feedback and eventually self destructs. I used to have that happen once in a while with the JMS SAW plugin. Though the symptoms would go away for a while when reopening the EDL

    BINGO!
Usually I first check plugs if there are playback issues.
There was one on the output track (Perspective from Oscillot Audio) that's worked fine before but turned out to be the culprit this time.
Very grateful to get this mix back given the day I spent working on it.
    Thank you all!
