    Default SOT: -inf?

    Good day,

This may just come off as sounding completely-and-utterly absurd, however "If I do not know the questions to ask, how can I ever be expected to get the answers?"

So, my question is, "What is "-inf?". Also, I have seen the symbol "-oo" in some places - such as TotalMix FX, and am unable to ascertain precisely what this symbol refers to?

Please forgive me if this posting is indeed absurd.

Inf is probably short for infinity. The double o is a simple way to write the symbol for infinity. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infinity_symbol

    Peter,

    Thanks for the reply...much appreciated!

What does 'inf" or infinity refer to...for example "no output"...and so on.

Now I need a means of creating this symbol in a textual format.

-inf or -***8734; (minus, then ALT+numpad236)--yes, minus infinity--simply means maximum attenuation on a fader's reference scale. It's like 0 or +10 or -18, only much, much quieter. Infinitely quiet, in fact.

Oops. Looks like this interface won't reproduce the "sideways eight" symbol. Use the above key combo to create it in your document of choice. Looks like this.

    Dave,

    Firstly, thanks for this!!!

Secondly, where did you get these three bits of information from? Seriously now! Especially the "alt code"
    • First, the alt code. In my particular case "Alt+8734" works "vondervully"!
    • Second bit was the alt code
    • Third bit is the designation and the explanation.

Thirdly, thanks for the simple-yet-straight forward explanation. Much appreciated!

    • Maybe you should get a job working for RME?

Again, thanks, Dave. You da' man!

Hmph. ALT+8734 makes a little black triangle for me. Did you mean ALT+236 by any chance? That one works for me. Well, not here. While I do see the sideways-eight symbol when using that code during composition, I get that asterisky mumbo jumbo when the post actually posts.

I use alt codes for a few things (foreign language accents and em and en dashes, mostly), so I just googled to find the code for the infinity symbol. Not sure when/where I learned what's what with this -inf stuff. I think it was just stuff I absorbed/assumed along the way in my audio recording/editing/mixing journey.

Yeah, somehow I think RME will be just fine without me.

    Dave,

ALT codes appear to be are source specific. So, for Word and such, ALT+8734 works.

    But here, ALT+8734 produces what you noted - though the character is rendered as ***9650;

Gotcha. Now, all we need is to find the alt code that creates an infinity symbol with this interface.
