Default SAWStudio, Crossover, and MacBook Pro M1

Hey there. Was wondering if anyone is using SS on a Mac M1 via Crossover. Just getting started with this experiment and it's up and running with SS native plugins and a loaded shade. Am able to build a mix. But, I haven't yet found a way to switch views with the function keys or if there is an alternative way to do this. I'm sure there will be some other things I need to work through. So, if there's someone already running SS on the new Apple silicon using Crossover, I'd be interested to hear what your experience has been and if/how you're making it work.

    Thanks.

You have to explicitly hold down the fn key get to the function keys on the Mac Keyboard to work, or alternatively hook up an external PC keyboard.

There is also a system setting that has to be changed

    This is interesting to me.
I’ve tried parallels and fusion, but could not get them to see my usb interface on my M2 Mac mini.
What audio interface do you have?

I am gonna check out Crossover!

Thanks Phillip. That was it. I'm brand new to Mac so I've got a learning curve in front of me.

Sorry, I haven't tried connecting to an interface yet. I typically use a dedicated recorder on location and bring the audio in via SD cards. At this point I don't need an interface for the MBP. My main PC DAW is connected to Presonus StudioLive Series III and works fine with SS. When I get some time I'll see if the MBP/SS setup works with the Presonus. So far, things are looking up for me to edit with this laptop on the road.

I haven't had any issues with parallels seeing my interfaces. If they show up on your mac, they should be available to Windows under Parallels.

You do have to configure parallels to tell it how to deal with Mac resources. It can be setup to be completely separate (with no access), partially shared, or fully shared.

What interface are you trying to connect?

Are you on an M1/M2? It worked for me on an intel, too.

What version of parallels are you using?

You do have to launch parallels and then plug in your interface so you can tell parallels which system to connect the interface to

I was trying Parallels 13....but now got caught up in trying Crossover....which also, after downloading and installing drivers, would not see my interfaces....BUT... not being hip to windows, I was having Saw look for the ASIO driver, which did not show up in the list....when I switched Saw to look for "24 Bit WDM Compatible Multimedia" (which, being a Mac guy, I had no idea what the hell that meant) and boom, both interfaces are in that list and working!!

So now the question is whether to stick with this Crossover, which Saw seems to like so far, though switching F keys there is a slight, slight hesitation, which I didn't see in Parallels..

So, am I loosing any audio quality using the WDM thing??

    Thanks

Parallels 13? are you sure. They are on release 19 and I don't believe anything older than 17 or 18 would even install on an Arm-based Mac.

Your interface needs to be plugged in after your VM is launched so that it can be attached directly to the VM. (there are options in parallels to make that connection the default after the first time it has be associated with the windows VM)

The ASIO drivers would need to be installed on windows, they will not be passed through the Mac OS.

Meaning you would need to install the MOTU audio software in Windows.

ASIO drivers are generally going to be both more flexible and robust than the WDM drivers (which doesn't mean the WDM driver won't work - clearly it does)
