Hi, can someone explain to me why buffer shifts occur on output?

I've never had any issues with the input buffer but I often get buffer offsets on output.

Even without any VST plugin, it happens to me on a recurring basis. There are sessions that happen and other sessions it doesn't happen and I don't know why.

Slipped buffers occur when the computer CPU doesn't have enough time to process all of the audio in the allotted time window (based on sample rate and buffer size).

what buffer settings are you using?

I am using 64 samples Buffer and 48Khz Sample Rate.

But there are sessions where it never happens to me and others where it happens all the time. Yesterday I was getting 1 every 6 or 7 minutes and constantly and without VSTs loaded and with a CPU load of 9%.

Sometimes in other sessions, with 55% CPU load and using VST plugins, it doesn't slip at all. That's why I don't understand.

Sounds like some sort of housekeeping routine running on the system

Do you have any anti-virus software running?

Check your process list in the task manager and see what programs/processes are running.

I do not have an antivirus and the computer is only dedicated to SAC in Windows 10 and with all the settings recommended by the Manual.

The truth is that I will look at the task manager for a few minutes to see if something is activated at that moment...

It could also be bad sectors on your hard drive... depending on where the audio session is located on an older harddrive, there could be some failing sectors in that area which are causing the system to have to reread the drive over and over to get the data... try moving the session to a ne folder on the harddrive without deleting the old folder... that will force the session to a new location.

Or consider upgrading to an ssd drive.... internal or external.

Try different combination for the performance settings ( Force single CPU, Prioritylevels).

I can "remote-in" and have a look-se at what is going on.

There is so much to consider that we can literally spend hours-upon-hours in dialog with no potential resolve.

The software I employ requires no installation, and is only 2.4MB's.

So. let me know...

PS: Do you employ disk imaging software? If not, you really-and-truly should, I prefer Macrium Reflect....but there are others out there.
