Thread: Mpeg4 Codec

    Default Mpeg4 Codec

Here's an interesting item about Microsoft's handling of standards, regarding Mpeg4:

    · Can I encode some videos in Microsoft's MPEG-4 V1/V2 format and then play them with the XviD codec or vice-versa?

No, you can't. Despite the name, MS MPEG-4 is not really MPEG-4 - rather it's Microsoft's own proprietary randition of the MPEG-4 format and incompatible to the ISO standard. So unfortunately, XviD and MS MPEG-4 don't interoperate.
